Belfast Day Tour From Dublin

Belfast Day Tour

Belfast Day Tour From Dublin

On the Belfast Day Tour, enjoy driving through the Irish countryside until we reach the northern capital of Belfast; a city with a turbulent past and part of its legacy is the Belfast City Peace Wall dividing the Protestant and Catholic communities. We will make many other relevant stops around Belfast to enhance your experience of this intriguing city. Our guides will make your experience enjoyable with their knowledge and their humour. No need for guidebooks on this tour!

In Belfast, we do a historical/political guided tour taking in many of the trouble hot spots and visit the Republican Museum. We visit the Belfast dockyards, which are the birthplace of the Titanic. We will give you some free time to explore the city before leaving Belfast, but fear not, we have plenty more to show you on this tour.

OVERVIEW
If you drive just two hours north of Dublin, you end up in another vibrant city. Belfast – a city that sits in what is politically another country. Northern Ireland is part of the United Kingdom, and so in two hours you can enter a different jurisdiction and require Pounds Sterling for spending money. This Belfast tour will allow you to see the great sights of Belfast and other significant gems of the north. Historical and natural treasures await you!

Our guides are knowledgeable and full of stories about Northern Ireland and her history. Learn about the history of rebellion, violence and the journey towards peace in the region. There are many more stories to tell about St Patrick, the patron saint of Ireland, great mountains and historical sites. If you’re lucky, they might even sing you a song.

Our guide will take you around west Belfast, home of the infamous Peace Wall, explaining its significance. The Republican museum is our next stop for an immersion into the history of the rebellion and the republican movement. In east Belfast, we find the birthplace of the ill fated, RMS Titanic. Then we head straight for the city center, allowing you the free time to look around, see some sights and have lunch (not included). Take some time to see the impressive City Hall or Belfast’s very own leaning tower.

Your northern adventure is far from over; we will visit Downpatrick, the final resting place of Ireland’s most famous saint. Visit the Saint Patrick Centre to learn about the patron saint of Ireland and learn about his life. The coastal village of Dundrum is known for its Norman Castle; climb atop its fortified walls and take in the panoramic views. You will experience more incredible landscapes as we head to the highest mountain range in Northern Ireland, the Mourne Mountains.

Take in the beauty of Spelga Dam, an area with breathtaking views. Nearby lies some magic; a hill that seems to defy the law of gravity! Don’t believe us? You’ll see it for yourself!

All adventures have to come to an end but take a look at our other day tours to continue your Irish adventures! Listen to some traditional Irish music as you relax on the coach after a full and exciting day and reminisce on your Belfast tour as we return to Dublin.

Itinerary – Belfast Day Tour

08:00am : Depart Dublin

We will meet at the Molly Malone statue (on Suffolk Street). Your guide will introduce himself and give a breakdown of the day’s events. We will drive north out of Dublin with your guide giving you information along the way. You’ll get a short breakdown of the history of Northern Ireland (you’ll get a much more detailed account in Belfast).

10:30am : Peace Wall & Titanic Quarter

We arrive in Belfast City! We start our tour with a drive around West Belfast, which is comprised of ‘Loyalists’ (allegiance to the Queen) on one side and ‘Republicans’ (those who want a united Ireland) on the other. Your guide will show you the dividing wall called ‘The Peace Wall’ – a wall forcing peace by separation. We will endeavor to explain how the troubles began and how things are today. The wall murals tell stories of both unionists and republicans. We are the only company to take in the Republican Museum (closed Sunday and Monday), which has a large amount of prison artefacts and prisoner handicraft as well as a research library and audio visual exhibitions. This is a unique place, so make the most of it!

Next, we travel to East Belfast to visit the Harland and Wolff shipyard, one of the biggest in the U.K. in its time. Many ships were launched from this yard, most famously the Titanic. You might have heard of it!

12:00pm : Free Time Belfast

Take some time for yourself to explore the city and grab a bite to eat. Below are some suggestions on what to see:

  • The Crown Liquor Saloon is charming. Its wooden partitions and ornate Victorian exterior belong to an old world.
  • If culture is for you, the Grand Opera house and St. Anne’s cathedral (also known as Belfast Cathedral) are worth a visit, check out its magnificent organ, the biggest in Northern Ireland, and find out about the ‘black santa.’
  • Belfast has its own leaning tower! The Albert Memorial Clock.
  • For the history buff, the Linen Hall Library is worth a visit. This is the oldest library in Belfast. It has the definitive collection archiving the troubles with over 250,000 items in the political section.
  • Donegal Square and City Hall is the landmark site in the centre of Belfast. This impressive building is the heart of the city and was where president Clinton addressed the citizens of Northern Ireland in 1995.

2:45pm : Downpatrick

Downpatrick is the next stop where we will visit the Saint Patrick Centre. Here, you will see an exhibition and a short film cataloguing the life of St. Patrick. We will walk to his final resting place to see the grave of the patron saint of Ireland.

4:00pm : Dundrum Castle

The quaint seaside village of Dundrum is our next stop where we will visit the ruin of what was once a fortified Norman castle built in the 13th century. You can see how effective this site would have been as a fortress as you have views for miles around.

5:00pm : Mourne Mountains

Last but not least we will visit the Mourne Mountains, Northern Ireland’s largest mountain range, where you will get a view of the highest peak, ‘Slieve Donard’ from Spelga Dam, an area specially selected for its outstanding beauty. The driver will show you Gravity Hill, a place where things magically seem to roll uphill!

7:00pm : Return To Dublin

We will arrive back in Dublin. Sit back and relax, chat about the day and listen to some traditional Irish music along the way.

“Day tour to Belfast, Noel was great!”

Today my husband and I took the Extreme Ireland Adventures tour to Belfast, Saint Patricks Grave, Dundrum Castle and the Mourne Mountains. This tour is a bang for your buck! Our tour guide Noel was so great! Noel was super knowledgeable and justifiably so given his scholarly past. He was also efficient, witty and welcoming! Our first stop was an introduction to The Troubles in Belfast. There murals within the city tell the story of The Troubles including the International Freedom Wall, the Freedom Wall and the Peace Wall, they are quite awe inspiring. Noel explained in depth the complicated politics both past and present within Ireland. We then set out to Saint Patrick’s Cathedral and visited the stone grave of Saint Patrick himself. The cathedral is quaint and beautiful. Our next two stops were awesome! Dundrum Castle and the Mourne mountains. Thank you Noel for an amazing time despite the fact that the whole bus was full of sticks in the mud who did not know how to have a good time if it hit them in face lol! You kept a great attitude, your stories were awesome and so were your songs 🙂

“Day trip to Belfast”

Myself and my partner had a wonderful experience on a day trip to Belfast and Northern Ireland from Dublin with our magnificent and knowledgable driver and guide, Noel.
The tour was extremely informative and inclusive, while also giving you free time to explore some of the sites and attractions yourself.
Highlight of the day was Noel’s awesome renditions of some classic Irish tunes!
Would highly recommend this tour and company, great day and great service.

“Loved our trip to Belfast”

We thoroughly enjoyed our day trip to Belfast with our very knowledgeable guide, Natasha. Highly recommend this tour to people who have limited time and want to see the highlights.
